Project 8: Family Garden – new build

A garden for all the family was the brief for this blank canvas. The main priorities were –
space for the children to play football; a low maintenance garden that was beautiful to look out onto from the house; plus space for a shed and drying area. A retaining wall was sought to level the ground to provide an area for play.

The design proposed a curved wall to level the ground as well creating a strong shape for the garden, which detracted the eye from the irregular shape of the boundary fence. The wall provided a substantial planting bed to house an array of shrubs and herbaceous perennials, setting an attractive backdrop to the garden. The wall followed the boundary line so as to create a substantial central area for playing games.
